BRS uses our in-house consultants
to help you establish an effective absence management
program that focuses on the design and coordination
of your leave programs. A review of your personnel
policies and early return-to-work programs are
just a starting point, as BRS will help you
develop baselines and benchmarks to measure
your success.
Employees are away from work
for a variety of reasons every day, including
injury, illness, transportation issues, family
issues, vacation, and others. It is an UNSCHEDULED
absence that creates cost, scheduling problems,
and productivity losses. Unscheduled absence
includes, primarily, short-term (sick days)
and long-term disability, Family Medical Leave
Act (FMLA), and job-related injury (workers’
compensation). Nationally, the cost of these
unscheduled absences adds up to about 4 to 6
percent of payroll.
Reducing costs,
improving productivity - Design
and coordination of leave programs; absence
intervention, including personnel policies and
early return-to-work programs; and program performance
measures can be used to establish effective
absence management programs for clients. The
return on investment for absence management
programs ranges from 5 to 10:1 according to
the Washington Business Group on Health.
Understanding
your Cost Drivers - You cannot
manage what you do not measure. Do you know
whether your employee absences are excessive
and hurting your bottom line? Not knowing can
carry a big price tag. Quantifying the direct
and indirect costs of absences is the first
step toward estimating possible savings from
implementing an effective absence management
program. BRS will help you identify the data
you have available to monitor the program and
confirm success.
