BRS’ confidential
Safety Perception Survey is the tool used to
assess employee perceptions, management commitment,
organizational characteristics, accountability,
and attitudes that are the foundation of your
organization’s safety culture. The survey
is specifically tailored to your needs and your
organizational culture. BRS uses the tool to
solicit employee feedback that senior leaders
and front line supervisors alike can use to
build on organizational strengths and identify
improvement opportunities.
The survey results serve to identify cultural,
organizational, and physical problems that may
be hindering the integration of safety into
our culture. The results further serve to benchmark
the effectiveness of your ongoing safety efforts.
Cultural initiatives and safety management training
programs can be developed based on identified
needs.
Here are just
a few benefits of the safety perception survey:
- Integrate safety into
the culture
- Set the agenda for safety
training
- Identify and prioritize
problem areas
- Validate management
decisions
- Lower the cost
of risk

The BRS perception surveys
have been validated with thousands of samplings.
They are designed to confidentially solicit
employee perceptions and comments about safety
related concerns. The survey takes approximately
20 minutes and can be completed on-line using
BRS’ secure website, which allows for
higher response rates and quicker analysis of
the survey results. Additionally, surveys can
be completed by e-mail or on a scannable paper
questionnaire.
Putting
it all together:
Upon completion of the
survey, BRS can provide a comprehensive report
that includes:
- Gap analysis to differentiate
safety perceptions between management layers
and employees
- Cross tabulation analysis
to compare responses by department and position
- Compilation of individual
written comments
- Safety program assessment
- Assessment of employee
participation in safety program activities
- Assessment of management’s
safety commitment and participation
- Assessment of the integration
of safety into the organizational culture
BRS can prepare a customized
action plan with specific recommendations for
your organization. If desired, BRS can also
facilitate management, supervisory, and employee
work group meetings to explain the survey results
and to assist with the implementation of the
action plan. This effort is often combined with
a comprehensive loss analysis, interviews with
employees and managers, and a site survey to
develop a complete picture of safety within
your organization.
